Mrs. Kathryn Birkner grew up in Johnsburg, Illinois. She received a Bachelor of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music. This is her seventh year teaching with Music Education Services. Mrs. Birkner's primary instrument is flute, however is proficient in all instruments in concert band. Her musical journey began in third grade at Big Hollow Elementary School. "Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. ~Charlie Parker." Mrs. Birkner wants her students to have as much fun and enjoyment as possible to create their own experience. "Music tells a story, you just have to find that story and play it for the world.” In her spare time she enjoys listening to music of all types including: classical, jazz, reggae, contemporary, country, and new age. When not in a classroom or playing her flute, she enjoys snowboarding, hiking, biking, and reading.
