Mr. John Mose was born in Chicago and grew up in River Grove, Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Elmhurst College, where he graduated with honors. Mr. Mose has been teaching music in one form or another since 1978, and he founded Music Education Services in the fall of 1989. John continues to teach part time at the junior high level. He is adjunct professor and the conductor of the Concert Band and low brass instructor at the College of Lake County. Currently teaching at the Western Illinois Jazz Camp, he has also appeared either as adjudicator or guest artist at the Western Illinois Jazz Festival, the Rolling Meadows Jazz Festival, the Herscher Swing and Sing as well as many Chicago area district events. His primary instrument is the trombone, but Mr. Mose can play each of the band instruments to a junior high competency level.
Mr. Mose believes strongly in the emotional power of music. "It affords one the opportunity to communicate a full range of emotions that any other art form would be hard pressed to match. As a listener, music gives one the chance to emotionally participate in a language that transcends speech." His proudest moments as a music teacher have occurred when working with students who think that they might never amount to much in a musical sense. "I am proudest when, having refused to give up on a child like that, they finally begin to see the light."
In his leisure time, Mr. Mose enjoys listening to jazz and R & B music. As a musician, he has toured Europe with the Chicago Bears band, played in China with the Chicago Metropolitan Big Band, and performed for Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Hope, the Temptations, Joan Rivers, Frankie Avalon, The Lettermen, Manhattan Transfer, The Spinners, The Four Tops, Tony Bennett, Bob Newhart, Frank Sinatra Jr. and many, many others. He also spent time playing musicals such as Forty Second Street, A Chorus Line, How to Succeed in Business, Bob Fosse’s Dancin’ as well as recording jingles for Toyota, Popeye’s, Kraft and CD’s for various Chicago based bands. He has recently toured Germany and Vietnam with The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band and Kimotion, respectively.
